Historical Background

Sudan Becomes a member of the International Atomic energy Agency in 1958; one year after it had came into being. In 1962 Sudan Atomic Energy Committee was constituted to act as a focal point responsible for co-coordinating between Sudan Government and the Agency in matters related to nuclear energy.
In 1971"Sudan Atomic Energy Committe Act" was issued mainly establishing a committee affiliated to the National Geology Corporation and meant to supervise the implementation of the IAEA technical cooperation program in Sudan.
The "Atomic Energy Committee Act, 1973" established a committee, under the supervision of the chairman of National Research Council, with the mandate of promoting use of nuclear techniques in the country and also, overseeing safety in all activities involving use of ionizing radiation...

Welcome to SAEC
The "Sudan Atomic Energy Commission (SAEC) Act, 1996" was passed by the National Assembly, and assented to by the President of the Republic. This Act has replaced both Atomic Energy Research Institute and the Atomic Energy Committee and vested their functions (Research, Coordination and Services) in the Newly established Commission.
